The manuscript is essential for the scientific community, particularly within nursing and professional nursing organizations. It addresses the critical issue of membership retention and engagement in professional nursing organizations (PNOs), which is crucial to developing nurse leaders and advancing healthcare. By exploring the impact of mentoring on new members, the manuscript provides valuable insights into how professional organizations can improve member participation, foster inclusion, and enhance leadership development. The abstract provides a comprehensive overview of the study, including the purpose, methods, findings, and conclusions. This detailed information equips the reader with a thorough understanding of the study. It would help if you expanded on the broader significance of membership retention in professional organizations and why this issue is critical for nursing leadership development. It is crucial to include more specific details about the mentoring process and the tools used. This will provide a deeper understanding of the study's methodology and enhance the reader's knowledge about the research process. The English is generally good, but there are areas where clarity, conciseness, and academic tone could be improved to better suit scholarly communication. Also, some sentences are lengthy and could be more concise. Additionally, there are minor grammatical issues that could be enhanced for clarity. For example, "Mentoring may positively influence membership retention by fostering engagement and inclusion of new members." (Abstract page 1). Alternative wording- Mentoring can positively influence membership retention by fostering new member engagement and inclusion. The title clearly indicates the focus of the manuscript, specifically on mentoring new members for membership retention in professional nursing organizations (PNOs). It accurately reflects the content and purpose. The abstract provides a brief overview of the study's purpose, methods, findings, and conclusions. However, it could benefit from additional details, particularly in the methods and findings sections, to better guide the reader through the manuscript. As mentioned in the earlier suggestion for improving the abstract, I would include more specifics on the mentoring process and outcomes. Also, the literature review is integrated into the introduction section. It could be more distinct, allowing the reader to identify the theoretical background and justification for the study quickly. Consider adding a separate "Literature Review" section as needed. Lastly, the discussion section appropriately interprets the results and connects them to the broader context of professional organizations. The references in the manuscript are generally appropriate, relevant, and support the study well. However, it would be beneficial to include a few more recent studies from 2022-2024. Also, the references seem well-organized.

Overall, the manuscript is essential and needs publication, but it requires some revisions to ensure it meets the highest standards of scholarly communication. With improved clarity, a more in-depth exploration of the mentoring process, grammatical corrections, and the inclusion of additional recent references, the study will significantly contribute to the nursing field, especially in promoting strategies for professional development and organizational engagement.

Reviewer comment-3

This manuscript contributes to support for maintaining interest in participation in professional nursing organizations. It could provide a call to mentoring for members of the scientific nursing community who are also members of professional nursing organizations. The title appears suitable to the content of the article. The abstract appears to be comprehensive. The English quality is suitable for scholarly communication. According to APA 7th edition, the introduction should not have a heading. Citations on para. 3, lines 3 and lines 8 need to be alphabetized. Most references appear appropriate. For currency, references should be 5-7 yrs: Catallo, C., Spalding, K., & Haghiri-Vijeh, R. (2014) is older than 7 years. Discussion related to consenting participants and protecting privacy should be placed before or at the beginning of Methods, to demonstrate that the consent process occurred before data collection. Competing interests were not noted. This article does not appear to be plagiarized. Recommend for minor revision before publications
